Description:
Ivermectin is an antiparasitic medication from the avermectin drug class. It operates by disabling and exterminating parasites by interfering with their nervous system. Originally formulated to treat various parasitic infections, Ivermectin has also been studied for possible antiviral effects, including its divisive use in treating COVID-19.
Uses & Indications:
Ivermectin is FDA-approved for treating several parasitic diseases and has been utilized off-label for other medical issues.
Approved Uses for Parasitic Treatment:
Strongyloidiasis – Treats intestinal threadworm infections.
Onchocerciasis (River Blindness) – Eliminates microfilariae of the Onchocerca volvulus parasite.
Scabies (Mites) – Used when topical treatments are ineffective.
Head Lice – Alternative option for stubborn cases.
Filariasis (Lymphatic Worms, including Wuchereria bancrofti & Loa loa) – Prevents microfilariae transmission.

Dosage & Administration for Parasitic Treatment:
For Strongyloidiasis (Threadworm Infection): Adults & Children (>15kg): 200mcg/kg as a single dose (A second dose may be required after 2 weeks).
For Onchocerciasis (River Blindness): 150mcg/kg as a single dose, repeated every 3-12 months if necessary.
For Scabies (Mites): 200mcg/kg as a single dose, repeat after 7-14 days if infestation continues.
For Filariasis (Lymphatic Worms): 200mcg/kg once annually (Can be combined with Albendazole for added effectiveness).
For Intestinal Roundworms & Lice: 200mcg/kg as a single dose, repeated after 2 weeks if needed.
Take on an empty stomach – Enhances absorption. Ensure to drink plenty of water with the medication. Follow-up stool tests may be necessary to confirm the elimination of the parasites.
Dosage & Administration for COVID-19 (Investigational Use – Off-Label)
Important: Although some studies have investigated Ivermectin for COVID-19, it is not FDA-approved for this application. If considering off-label use, please consult a healthcare professional.
Suggested Investigational Dosing for COVID-19: 12mg once daily for 5 days OR 0.2-0.4mg/kg daily for 3-5 days.
Optimal to take with or after a meal to enhance bioavailability. Do not exceed the recommended doses – Overuse may lead to toxicity.
Many medical organizations do not advocate for the use of Ivermectin in COVID-19 due to insufficient evidence.

Potential Side Effects:
